The Shorenstein Center Fellowship Program offers an opportunity for outstanding journalists and scholars to spend a semester at Harvard University, where they can share their knowledge and expertise in a collegial and intellectually stimulating environment. The mission of the fellowship program is to advance research in the field of press, politics and public policy; provide an opportunity for reflection; facilitate a dialogue among scholars, journalists and policymakers; and create a vibrant and long-lasting community.
Since 1986 the Center has hosted more than 200 visiting journalists and scholars. They have traveled from around the world and across the United States. Papers and books by former fellows have added significantly to the body of work on press and politics. Fellows' papers have been published as articles in journals such as Foreign Affairs and the Columbia Journalism Review, and have formed the basis for longer books.

Fellows participate in the Center's seminars and conferences, attend public lectures and explore cultural and intellectual offerings at Harvard. The Shorenstein Center creates opportunities for its fellows to interact with fellows, students, and faculty from other Harvard programs. Each Shorenstein fellow is assigned a student assistant to facilitate their research, and participates in special activities for students and fellows.

What Is the Fellowship?
The Joan Shorenstein Center offers a one-semester fellowship at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Fellows are domestic or international journalists, scholars and/or policymakers who are interested in the influence of the press on public policy and politics.

The fellowships offer a unique opportunity for scholars and practitioners to share their knowledge and expertise in a collegial and intellectually stimulating environment. Fellows participate in weekly seminars with scholars, a luncheon speakers series with invited journalists or policymakers and in other organized programs of the Shorenstein Center and Harvard University. The Fellowship Program is not a degree or journalism training program.

Objective
The purpose of the Fellowship Program is to advance existing research in press/politics and to provide an opportunity for distinguished experts to reflect on their discipline. Our goal is to foster a collegial and intellectual environment that will enrich and complement one's knowledge of the field. The primary focus for a fellow in residence is a paper (approximately 15 pages in length) on a topic examining and analyzing the influence of the press on politics and public policy in the domestic or international arena.

Guidelines

- Applicants must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
- Applicants must be journalists, scholars or policymakers active in the field of press, politics and public policy.
- Fellows are required to live in residence for one semester (fall semester runs approximately September through December; spring semester runs approximately February through May).
- Domestic and international applicants are eligible.
- Stipend: $30,000 disbursed in four installments over the semester. Travel and living expenses are not covered by the Center.
- Office space, computer, printer and telephone are provided.
- All application materials must be received on or before FEBRUARY 1, 2011.

The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) is pleased to offer fellowships generously funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for dissertation research in the humanities in original sources.

The purposes of this fellowship program are to:

- help junior scholars in the humanities and related social-science fields gain skill and creativity in developing knowledge from original sources
- enable dissertation writers to do research wherever relevant sources may be, rather than just where financial support is available
- encourage more extensive and innovative uses of original sources in libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and related repositories in the U.S. and abroad, and
- provide insight from the viewpoint of doctoral candidates into how scholarly resources can be developed for access most helpfully in the future.

The program offers about fifteen competitively awarded fellowships a year. Each provides a stipend of $2,000 per month for periods ranging from 9-12 months. Each fellow will receive an additional $1,000 upon participating in a symposium on research in original sources and submitting a report acceptable to CLIR on the research experience. Thus the maximum award will be $25,000.

Original source material means primary sources such as the following:

- records, documents, manuscripts, and other written material
- photographs, films, sound recordings, oral histories, and other audiovisual material
- maps, blueprints, drawings, and other graphic material library special collections, including books used as primary, not secondary, sources
- original artwork, artifacts, and museum objects born-digital sources such as websites, wikis, and blogs

For purposes of this program, eligible fields of the humanities and related elements of the social sciences will include:

Fellowships - Community Solutions Program US

Program Overview: The Community Solutions Program is a professional development program for the best and brightest global community leaders working in Transparency & Accountability; Tolerance/Conflict Resolution; Environmental Issues; and, Women’s Issues.

Selected candidates will participate in:
· A Four-month U.S. Fellowship: Fellows are placed in U.S. community-based, non-profit or other organizations, government offices or legislative bodies where they work with community leaders.
· Community Leadership Institute (CLI): Fellows will spend more than 500 hours developing practical leadership skills in Goal Setting, Monitoring & Evaluation, Organizational Team Building, Networking & Partnering, and Communications & Advocacy.
· Follow-on Projects: Fellows, in partnership with their U.S. hosts, will develop follow-on projects to be completed after fellows return to their home countries.

Sixty-six eligible individuals will be selected to participate in the Community Solutions Program.
Financial provisions of the program include: J-1 visa support; round-trip travel from fellow’s home city to the U.S.; accident and sickness insurance; and a stipend to cover housing, meals and incidentals.

Eligibility Requirements: Competition for the program is merit-based and open to community leaders, ages 25-38 at the time of application, who meet the following criteria:

· Is from a participating country (U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the U.S. , and individuals who have applied for U.S. permanent residency in the past three years are not eligible for this program.);
· Is currently living and working in his/her home country (Individuals participating in academic, training or research programs in the United States at the time of application and individuals residing or working outside their home countries at the time of application are not
eligible for this program);
· Is currently working on a community engagement initiative in his/her home country; and, has at least 2 years of professional experience in this capacity at the time of application;
· Is able to begin the program in the United States in 2011, and is committed to returning to his/her home country after completion of the program;
· Is able to receive a U.S. J-1 visa (Individuals who have participated in an exchange visitor program sponsored or funded by the U.S. Government who have not fulfilled their two-year home residency requirement by the time of application are not eligible for this program); and,
· Is proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application.

Preference will be given to individuals with four (4) months or more academic exchange or professional training experience in the United States. Employees of the U.S. Embassy are not eligible.

PhD Studentship (fees + bursary) on Korean Horror Cinema

The Department of Arts, University of Northumbria (Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK) is advertising a PhD studentship entitled 'A History of Korean Horror Cinema' to begin January 2011. The studentship comprises of a tuition fee waiver, an anuual bursary of £7000, access to research expenses and a dedicated work station.

Relatively little has been published to date in English on Korean horror cinema, and what has been discussed frequently concentrates on the renaissance of Korean horror film at the millennial fin-de-siècle.
This PhD will take a broader perspective, considering the historical development of Korean horror from the 1960s to the present day. What are the social, political, economic and cultural contexts of Korean horror production, and how do these change over time? How can these films be characterised aesthetically, and what might their relation be to international markets? We would be pleased to accept proposals from suitably qualified candidates who are interested in utilising an interdisciplinary methodology to explore an exciting and nascent field of cinema studies,and who will contribute directly to the analysis of horror film and the burgeoning field of Korean Cinema Studies.
Proficiency in Korean language is desirable but not essential.

We are looking to recruit candidates of the highest quality, with the capability of submitting excellent theses within the standard PhD duration of 3 years. You will need to demonstrate a strong performance in your first degree (probably a first) as well as a good MA qualification. We will, however, consider candidates straight from undergraduate degrees where there is evidence of exceptional academic ability. Four scholarships of €2,500 from European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology

The ESPE Visiting Scholarship offers financial support to members of the Society or to their collaborators in the view of gathering information and experience on a specific research issue OR on a laboratory technique in the field of paediatric endocrinology. Proposed projects should endeavour to increase general know-how in paediatric endocrinology at the recipient's home institution. The stated aim of the scholarship, as agreed upon by ESPE and the sponsoring company, is to help recipients to overcome unforeseen obstacles which may arise in the course of a research project in a simple, quick and streamlined manner.

The ESPE Visiting Scholarship is awarded on the basis of nominations made by an ESPE member. Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate how they intend to bring important knowledge and/or techniques back to their home institution.

How to Apply

The following documents should be submitted in electronic format by 31st January, 30th April, 31st July or 31st October:

* The committee can, at its discretion, award more than four scholarships in extraordinary circumstances, for example, if several particularly deserving applications are received contemporaneously.
* The scholarship covers travel and housing expenses only. It excludes research materials or costs and personal living expenses.
* A scholarship can be used to finance a short-term visit of a few days to up to six weeks' duration in an external laboratory/hospital/institute in order to:
* learn a new technique
* troubleshoot on existing methods
* discuss new methods/techniques in a research seminar
* compile statistics on joint research projects
* test samples in the framework of a joint research project.
* Alternatively, the scholarship may be used to finance the visit of an outside expert in order to receive essential guidance, consultation or advice at the requester's home institute.
* A brief report in the form of an e-mail message should be submitted to the ESPE Secretariat within 3 months of completing the visit.
* Scholarship recipients are encouraged to acknowledge the scholarship's support in any publications which result from it.

Lehigh University’s Office of International Affairs, Iacocca Institute offers a unique, experiential program, The Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship (PSGE), for Pennsylvania and international high school students ages 16-18. The deadline for the application for international students is February 15, 2010.

The five-week, residential summer program will be held on Lehigh University’s campus, Bethlehem, PA from June 27-July 31, 2010. This coming summer, we expect to double the number of international students participating in the 2010 program.

The PSGE students are part of a five-week journey focused on the topics of global entrepreneurship, leadership, team building, innovation, creativity, and doing business around the world. Students participate in large and small group seminars and workshops, visit businesses and industries throughout the area, and work closely with a successful entrepreneurial company. As a learning outcome, each student group prepares a business report and makes a formal presentation to the company, with recommendations and solutions to the entrepreneurial problem they were faced with at the company.

The program fee which includes all housing, food, tuition, course materials, activities and field trips is US $3400. Limited partial scholarship funding is available for students selected who can demonstrate financial need.

Scholarships of HK$120,000 (i.e. about US$15,424) each per academic year will be awarded to successful applicants, covering tuition fee, hostel and other academic and living expenses.

Each scholarship is offered on an annual renewable basis and is tenable for a period of up to 3 years, subject to continued outstanding academic performance.

Eligibility

- Students should have attained at a recognised post-secondary institution outside Hong Kong a qualification equivalent to the Admission Requirements of the University and students will be considered on an individual basis.
- Students may be required to gain a minimum of Grade C in English in the GCE O-Level or GCSE Examination or an equivalent public examination; or a TOEFL score of 213 in the computer-based test, or 550 in the paper-based test, or 79 in the internet-based test; or an IELTS overall band score of 5.5.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has good academic standing and a good track record in community services. For candidates of comparable academic merits, preference will be given to the candidate with better proven records of community services.

In EMAJ Magazine you can find features on the life conditions of homosexual people in Egypt, the exploding Halal food market in Europe or the conditions of journalists in south Lebanon.
The EMAJ Magazine is brought to you by a network of fellow young journalists from the Middle East, EU and North Africa who met during the Euro-Mediterranean Academy for Young Journalists held in Amman, Jordan in 2008 and Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2009.
Due to their different backgrounds, they can’t and don’t want to be politically correct. In the spirit of free speech, they decided that they did not want to silence the voices of the members just because they were colliding with the value systems of a region or country. Instead they decided to use this platform as a starting point for sometimes sensitive but important discussions in the context of interregional journalism and dialogue.
The EMAJ Magazine focuses on issues related to the European Union, Middle East and North Africa with a special regard to the relationship between the regions as well as human rights, intercultural dialogue and immigration.

The Government Finance Officers Association's Scholarship Committee will review all applications and make an award if it determines that one of the candidates has met all of the criteria. Applicants will be notified in writing on or before April 30, 2010 of the committee’s final decision.

The winner, if one is selected, will be invited to attend the Government Finance Officers Association's annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia on, June 6 – June 9, 2010, where the award will be presented. The Government Finance Officers Association will provide a complimentary annual conference registration and pay for transportation costs to Atlanta and hotel accommodations. The World Bank offers internships with a minimum duration of four weeks to young people interested to learn more about the economic and social issues that affect people’s lives around the world. The programme offers opportunities for study and work that provide hands-on experience.

The Bank Internship Programme offers graduate students an opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in an international environment.

Paid internships are available for winter and summer programmes. It is open to students who are nationals of the Bank’s member countries. Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and be already enrolled in a full-time graduate study programme (pursuing a Master’s degree or Ph.D. with plans to return to school in a full-time capacity).

This programme seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human resource development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development, as well as other related fields. Fluency in English is required.

The Bank pays an hourly salary to all interns and, where applicable, provides an allowance towards travel expenses. Interns are responsible for their own living accommodations. Most positions are located in Washington, DC, with a minimum duration of four weeks.

Deadlines:
- Summer (June-September) – the application period for the Summer Program is 1 December – 31 January each year.
- Winter (December-March)- the application period for the Winter Program is 1 September – 31 October each year.

European Charlemagne Youth Prize, 10, 000 Euros

The prize, now in its third year, targets young people who have been involved with projects helping to promote understanding between peoples from different European countries.
The deadline for submitting projects is 22 January 2010.

Role models for young Europeans
The European Charlemagne Youth Prize, which is jointly organised by the European Parliament and the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen, is granted to projects undertaken by people between 16 and 30 years old. The winning projects should serve as role models for young people living in Europe and offer practical examples of Europeans living together as one community. Youth exchange programmes, artistic and Internet projects with a European dimension are amongst the projects selected.
Total prize money of 10,000 Euros

The three winning projects will be awarded funding of €5,000, €3,000, and €2,000 respectively. They will also be invited to visit the European Parliament.

The best three projects will then be selected in two steps.

First phase: national juries consisting of at least two MEPs and one representative of a youth organisation will select a national winner from each of the 27 EU Member States by 5 March 2010.

Second phase: A European jury, consisting of three MEPs, the President of the European Parliament and four representatives of the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen, will select the winner from the 27 projects submitted by national juries by 8 April 2010.

Winter Camp in Poland

The camp will take place from 7th-13th February 2010 in Suwalki, Region in Poland near the border with Lithuania.

This is the first winter edition of the International Student Camp Zabinki which we have been organizing since 2002. Each year it gathers over 100 participants from all over the Europe. The camp is based on non- formal education and intercultural learning. This winter we would like to challenge the theme of borderlands what a melting pot of different nationalities and cultures means in practice. You have an opportunity to spend the first weeks of new year in a multi-cultural atmosphere.

The Kokkalis Program strives to provide promising leaders and current public executives from the region with scholarships to pursue master's degree studies at the Harvard Kennedy School. Eligible to apply for a Kokkalis Fellowship are natives of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey who are applying to one of the following Master’s degrees at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University:

Frame My Future Scholarship Contest 2010

The Frame My Future Scholarship Contest is offering $5,000 in total prize money to five lucky winners plus an additional $1,000 to the grand prize winner’s graphic design school, graphic design college or university.

How It Works
Entering this contest is simplicity itself. Submit a JPEG image that communicates the following theme of “This Is How I Frame My Future.” The idea is to demonstrate, through your design, what your plans and vision are upon graduating college.

Acceptable Original Creations
After you have decided how to express your idea of what you want to accomplish and achieve after your graduation, you may submit your work in various forms such as:

-Photography
-Painting
-Graphic Design
-Drawing
-Poem
-Collage
-A Combination of All of the Above

Who Is Eligible?

The Awards
Awards will be given to five “success driven” students in the form of $1000 scholarships. The grand prize winner will also receive a $1,000 donation to the school’s general scholarship endowment program.
